There's someone I know who has been a victim of domestic violence/aggravated battery. He wants to take legal action against the offender who had to stay with him. The crime happened in Huntington, West Virginia, but he's currently studying in Columbia, Missouri. The crime happened to him on July 22, 2011, and since then, he's been depressed, withdrawn, and reluctant to get help. I would suggest seeking a counselor, but I doubt they would lead him to the criminal justice system, and the police. He wants to report to the police, and certain lawyers, but he doesn't know where to begin. When he was battered, his left side of his face was injured, especially his left eye, which might need surgery. At the time of the incident, he didn't know what to do, except bring justice on this criminal. When he called the police the day after, he may have not requested a crime report, because he was extremely scared of doing something, since the crime happened in the home, and he hasn't been in Huntington long enough to know where to go. Now that he's in Columbia, MO, away from the person and his family, he's still in pain from the injuries put on him. So, he wants to seek social and criminal justice against the offender, who is still in West Virginia. He just doesn't know who to talk to about this, that can bring justice on this perpetrator; where to go to seek legal justice, and what avenue to use while he's in Columbia, MO studying. The victim and the offender are related, and from the injuries he had, the offender commited a malicious aggravated battery, which is a felony. He's also reluctant to seek criminal justice, because he fought back against the offender, without causing any injuries on him, but he still feels victimized by this abuser, so he needs someone who will advocate him, no matter what the abuser does to put him down. My victimized friend doesn't want to be in trouble by the justice system for fighting back. He's still bothered by what happened to him, and he needs our help to bring justice to the offender. I also don't know how to help him, so I need your help. Which attorney should he contact? If he wants to use the newspaper, which ones? Can a counselor help him to seek justice against the offender? Can he contact the criminal justice system in Columbia, MO, since he's currently there, or should he contact the ones in the place where the crime happened? He needs justice, and I'm the only one he trusts right now. So, please help him. Thank you.... Read More »
